We have recently purchased a Amazon FireTV stick. In this post we will detail the steps involved to take a screenshot on the TV stick. We will be detailing two methods. Both method use ADB debugging from android device/Fire Tablet.
On your Fire TV:
- Open the Settings menu on your Fire Stick and select My Fire TV.
- Select Developer Options.
- Enable the option that says ADB Debugging.
- turn on adb debugging.
- Now hit home on your remote.
- Install "Wireless File Manager" on your Amazon Fire TV stick. In order to find the app on your TV just say the app's highlighted name on the Voice Remote provided with the TV stick
- Open Wireless File Manager on your TV and select Start Wireless File Manager.
- Remember, the Fire TV/stick and receiving(Android/iOS/Windows) device should be connected to the same WiFi network.
- Then a http url will be displaying in the app. This is the local IP address of your device.
- You can keep the app running on fire tv while performing remaining steps or After noting the IP select Stop Wireless File Manager and exit the app.
On your Android device/Fire Tablet:
New method:
- Download ADB Remote, Keyboard & Shell (Amazon Appstore || Google Play) on android device/Fire Tablet you have.
- Once installed, Open and enter your TV's Local IP address as noted from Wireless File Manager (Google Play || Amazon ).
- Then enter port number as 5555 and select connect.
- Now select "Take Screenshot".
- Now you can back out of ADB Remote app.
The screenshot should be saved @ /sdcard/.
Sharing the screenshot:
In order to share you will need to transfer the screenshot to another device. You can use wireless file manager that was installed earlier for this; Steps are detailed below.
- On your Fire TV, Open Wireless File Manager on your TV and select Start Wireless File Manager.
- Remember, the Fire TV/stick and receiving(Android/iOS/Windows) device should be connected to the same WiFi network.
- Then a http url will be displaying in the app on TV. Just enter the URL in any browser on any device within your network (It provides a neat pitch black web interface to Transfer/Download files from TV, or upload/send files to fire TV).
- In order to download a file shown right click on the filename and select "Save as"/"Download" to save it on your device.
- Remember to ensure that app is running in foreground/background while you are using the app; it is suggested to keep the app open; you can also hit home button to send the app to the background while in use.
- You can also check the screemshot before sending using the "open on tv" next to the filename in the list to open the file on your TV.
- When it is time to end the session just select Stop Wireless File Manager on your TV and exit the app on TV.
Wireless File Manager can also be used to send Files to your TV's internal or external storage devices. We have already previously detailed the steps in our earlier post here.
